Governor’s Park – Sprinklers have been installed and grass has been planted. Also, a Gazebo has gone up and a BBQ grill for residents to enjoy at the park with more amentieis planned to follow.
Well #7 is being installed
The City has received a Transportation Improvement Board Grant of $1.3 million for the reconstruction of B Street from Boundary Road to North Six Street near the High School. The design for the project is starting. Survey crews will be surveying on the B Street from August 3 to August 14th for the design of the improvements. The City intends to hold public meetings to get residents' input for the improvements later this year. The construction of the improvements should occur next year.
The City is drilling a new well to increase the reliability of the water system. The drilling of Well No. 6 is starting on August 3rd. The drilling of the well should be finished by the end of September. The well is located in the City park at the intersection of South Street and West 3rd Street just south of State Route 22. Noise during the daylight hours will be expected during the drilling of the well along the west half of South Street. In addition, a pipe will be installed along the north edge of South Street and the east edge of Allison Road. There will be detours of approximately one day each when the pipe is installed where it crosses Main Street and Sixth Street along South Street.
Waste Water Treatment Facility Upgrade: The City has secured 6.4 million financing package to upgrade, expand and increase treatment capacity. The original wastewater treatment facility (WWTF) was constructed in 1954 and replaced by an oxidation ditch system in 1976. An upgrade was completed in 1999 but the WWTF has reached 80% capacity and current treatment process will not meet future National Pollutant Discharge Elimination System (NPDES) permit levels, requiring expansion and construction of a new WWTF. Construction on the new WWTF started in 2012 with the rehab of the Ultraviolet Disinfection building. Major construction will begin in 2013 and is scheduled to be finished in 2014. Municipal Water System Improvements: With a completed and approved Water System Plan the City has begun the process of making required improvements. The City has secured $1.8 million in loan and grant funding for the construction of Well #6. Estimated completion time is summer 2015. Additional improvements include a new reservoir, replacement of main lines and valves, and the acquisition of water rights. The City is seeking loan and grant funding from the USDA and CDBG programs to complete these upgrades. The City has also received a $30,000 grant from the Department of health to investigate potential solutions for Well #3 and to determine the best location for Well #6.
Main Street Reconstruction: The proposed improvements will reconstruct the existing roadway and sidewalk. The project will: Realign the intersection at Washington Avenue and Main Street, add a median, add additional illumination, revise storm drainage collection, installation of a pedestrian crossing and intersection improvement at the intersection of Main Street and SR 22.

Historic Mabton High School Rehabilitation: The City of Mabton has collaborated with the owners of the building Mabton Historic LLC led by Paul Purcell and has secured the number 2 ranked project out of 26 for a Washington State Heritage Capital Projects Grant in the amount of $750,000 to restore and upgrade the Historic building for a new use. Funding will become available at end of 2013 Washington State Legislative session.
Total estimated project cost $2,253,325. The City will has applied for Surface Transportation Program grant funds $2,253,325, and will apply for Transportation Improvement Board Small City Funding Program for the 13.5% local matching requirement $351,675.
City Facility Improvements: City Hall: Roof replaced in 2012, 7 windows replaced in 2011, two 2nd story rooms rehabbed into offices for Mayor and Council, HVAC system added to Mayors office. Future improvements will include replacing remaining 22 windows, rehabbing rest of 2nd story and installing HVAC system to entire 2nd floor.
Street Lighting Improvement: The City of Mabton received a Washington State Department of Commerce Energy Efficiency Grant. The grant will be used to upgrade light fixtures from T-12 lamps with high efficiency Consortium of Energy Efficiency (CEE) lamps at City facilities and replace all streetlights with high efficiency LED lamps. Total estimated project cost $95,000. Grant $68,229, Pacific Power Incentives $16,588 and City contribution $10,000.
